I have lived a life, by and large free from the receipt of bias. At least in the sense of not being, until now, a member of any group that got much negative attention. What goes around comes around, and it seems fair that white folks take a turn at the oar. It’s only fair that we feel the boot of dismissal resting on our necks a spell.
What makes it acute, is the butt-hurt stingyness of it all, because we really ARE oppressed, People of my generation, hear me: It’s not white males, it’s all boomers!
Before we begin the long march of the forgotten, before our voices become like the fallen snow, silent, then finally gone, let me speak not to all people, but to the people the young will become.
We always knew that our numbers were too many, but like you, we felt sure that we had invented real sex: all bets, and clothes, were off. Our generation was the first to come of age after the introduction of mainstream pharmaceutical birth control. I’m not sure if we created it, or it created us, but it was yuuuge! Alasudden, teenagers, pregnancy-free sex, and no disease. (yet). Sigh, …you have the boomers to thank for making VD a childhood disease.
To say that influenced us is about as likely as it does you. Just a little perspective. I wanted to tell you some things before i have my next senior moment.
Firstly i am both personally sorry, as a member of the aforementioned boomer clan, for many things, large and small. I’m sorry that so many of us believed our own hippie psychobabble, but you have to realize, it really IS chancy to trust anyone over 30. We swallowed the blue pill of tune-in, turn on, and drop out, and started down a road of non-involvement that must be in all haste, repudiated. It is impossible to discount the responsibility and involvement of the boomers, saddled as we are with so many untenable situations. In all fairness, we inherited problems too. I’m just sorry we haven’t made more progress.
I’m sorry you have hillary clinton on the national stage. Listen, like i said i kinda dropped out of politics for pretty much my entire life, so believe me, i’d rather not give a shit. I feel i owe it to something to say you people had better really slow down and think about this election. This makes hitler look like nixon. I’m serious. clinton really holds true to the tenet that she knows best, and the end justifies the means. Our constitution energetically opposes this, in favor of a more populous view. The trouble with making law and land amenable to dictatorships, is that perforce it must be done with consensus. Likely the first dictator in recent memory might seem benevolent. More’s the pity.
We hold dear that each of us should have a vote, it is wrong to steal an election, no matter why. It was white america that put barak obama in the white house. As much as any demographic, boomer did that. We should be so proud to see a woman hold the highest office. All hope that women politicians will care more for others, be more willing to seek out compromise. With nothing much left to conquer but each other, if there ever was, men have had a good run of it. Maybe it’s time to see if we can deliver a national contender of the gentler sex. I haven’t seen much of the divine feminine survive politics, but hope springs eternal. In other words, a woman president, hell yes, but this woman? God, no. Nixon committed crimes, but he wasn’t a criminal, he was troubled, and dishonest. He lost his way. Hillary is a criminal, and the Clintons are a crime family. I’m sorry to say, but this is how it happens. Some group or other, reacts in some way to intervene, does, or doesn’t. This is the stuff of history. Much will be lost if we wait for someone else to stop this.
I watched a politician rush down to a senior center on the day of an announcement regarding potential aid cuts to seniors. He reassured them he would fight for them, but as i watched i realized, “he’s afraid of their power.”
At the time of this event, boomers were retiring en mass, but still comprised a huge majority of a demographic, had not yet begun to die in any large numbers. I had recently read an opinion piece that caught my eye. I vividly remember reading the caution:
be good to the boomers, because they compose such a large voting block, that regardless of the outcome of any initiative, they could pretty damn well vote in or out, anything that could be voted on.
WOW, that’s pretty heady stuff. My next thought, ever the rebel, was: “Oh, shit, if i had a horse in this race i’d be damn well cutting health benefits, food benefits, and generally any damn boomer benefits as fast as i could.”
It was a pretty stunning realization, to discover that over time, it seemed less radical than business as usual. To this day, i view legislation from within this framework. I always ask, “who benefits?” regarding politics When i look at current events my conclusion are clear.
What we are experiencing with the Clintons in this election, is the exposing of one of the most corrupt political machines i have ever seen. The string of catastrophe, theft, killing, and cover-up stretch threw time connected with these people, reminds me to always check for toilet paper. We saw bill clinton lie to us looking straight into a camera, while he tried parlay the destruction of a young woman into another breath of life for his sorry corpse. I mean God, bad as is it is, infidelity pales in comparison with the willingness not to lie, but to try to destroy the credibility of someone you KNOW is telling the truth. Hillary stood right there, hedging her bets, full aware he was lying, and saying not word one. From these people, what worship of truth and honor can you expect?
I hate to be strident, but it really is critical, that in our haste to empower a capable honest talented woman to lead the nation, we don’t make it the disaster of our first black president. At least with hillary, we can never say, “we didn’t know.”
To the young Hillary supporters is say, “Listen, you know she is corrupt. Just that alone. If you look at the recorded evidence alone.” I want to tell them, “Please do not underestimate us, we who are your sons, fathers, brothers, lovers. Bring us a good woman, an honest woman, who can survive the journey through the halls of power, and it will be as if angels had delivered her there themselves, such will be the overwhelming majority, it will be our proudest moment, when a sister, a mother, a friend, a lover, should hold such a precious trust.
